EunKyung Suh-Lee, Director of Music

EunKyungSuhDirectorofMusicEunkyung Suh is a native of South Korea and her interest in Music began at an early age. While in Korea, she studied composition, organ and piano, and was also a member of the Hand bell choir and the Bach Choir. Since the time she was young, she had the role of Church Pianist/Organist, and the music and church became a part of her life quite naturally. She has always considered the church to be her second home. As a church musician with fifteen years experience, she has extensive training and experience on the organ, piano, carillon, harpsichord and as a conductor. In addition to music she has been active as a community volunteer, and she would be interested in helping in the ministry of the church in whatever ways seem appropriate. As a committed Christian she has a deep interest in furthering the spiritual growth of the ensembles and ministry areas that she leads. She earned her B.A degree in Church music and Organ Performance from Keimyung University in Korea. She holds a Master of Arts in University of Portland and studied church music and organ/carillon from University of Kansas. Currently, Eunkyung is a DMA student in Organ Performance at ASU.

Jarrod Phillips, Director Of Youth Ministry

Jarrod PhillipsJarrod grew up in Arizona and lived in different cities like Payson, Lake Havasu, and Tucson. When Jarrod was in middle school he and his family moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, for two years. This was an awesome experience for Jarrod-- getting to see much of the Hispanic culture through traveling and making friends there. For a few years Jarrod worked as a server until he was hired at Community Church of Joy in 2002. At Church of Joy Jarrod met his wife Ashley, who is a preschool teacher, and they married in 2005. Jarrod was involved in various youth events at Church of Joy which revealed to him his call to lead in youth ministry and to go to college. In 2008 Jarrod felt called to volunteer with the youth at Journey Church. This was a great learning experience as he was able to see and be part of a growing church with great leaders and mentors.  In 2011 Jarrod and his wife had their first daughter, Halen.  Later that year Jarrod graduated from Arizona Christian University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in youth ministries.

She also planned Sunday school, wrote Biblical curriculum, and ran Vacation Bible Schools and Family Camp. It was at this church that she met her husband, Jarrod.  After completion of her college degree she became a kindergarten teacher in the Peoria School District, where she currently still teaches. Jarrod and Ashley welcomed their first daughter, Halen, in early 2011. They have been happily married for 8 years and are expecting their second child in the Spring of 2014.
